Art is the most honest, recognizable and accessible reflection of the human spirit that is available to us. Being so intimately tied to our humanity makes art as difficult to define as life itself. At most we can say that, like all life, it must grow and change if it is to fulfill its purpose. Stagnant art, like a witty remark repeated endlessly, loses its ability to fill us with wonder and delight. The history of art, like all of mankind’s story, chronicles the birth and growth of ideas and concepts. And the institutions that serve the art must change to reflect its ever varying face. For 12 years, Handley-Hicks Gallery has provided a venue for some of the areas finest contemporary artists, showcasing their attempts to reveal the beauty in all that surrounds us. In a balanced and beautiful symbiosis, artistic expression provided ideas for exhibits and exhibits fueled artistic imaginations. This exhibit marks the end of a wondrous and exciting journey. These artists, whose talent and energy have fueled the journey, are brought together to write a final chapter, an epilogue to a 12 year search for beauty and truth. But it is a chapter that is vibrant with life and offering the promise of many new stories to come. Change is inevitable, as inevitable as the end that follows, but each end is a beginning as well. Join us in celebrating a glorious end and a grand beginning.
